An exceptional checkerboard bearing the Adinkra symbol Nea Onnim — "No one can know everything." Solid padouk, real wenge inlays, precision marquetry and a hand-carved frame. An art piece where play becomes an invitation to learn. 38 × 38 cm, natural color.

"No one can know everything."

This is the promise carved into the wood of this checkerboard. The motif running along the frame is Nea Onnim, an Adinkra symbol of the Akan people of West Africa — an emblem of the pursuit of knowledge and of learning that lasts a lifetime. On a game board — that training ground for thought, patience and strategy — its meaning takes on a singular resonance: every game is a lesson, every opponent a teacher.

This piece is handcrafted in our workshops, born from the meeting of two noble woods that could not be more different. Solid padouk unfurls its red-orange grain, warm and alive; real wenge answers with its dark, almost nocturnal depth. No stain, no dye: this striking contrast is the authentic one of the wood itself.

Each square is the work of precision marquetry, fitted to the millimeter. The crispness of the grid, the perfect flatness of the surface and the continuity of the wood grain all reflect a workshop standard that leaves no room for approximation.

The frame, hand-carved, bears the Nea Onnim symbol chiseled in relief, playing with the light as the angle of view shifts. This patient work, impossible to reproduce identically, makes every piece truly one of a kind.

Delivered with its playing pieces engraved with the Wouley monogram, this checkerboard finds its natural place on a living-room table, a distinguished desk, or in any interior that cultivates beauty. An object of play, an object of art, an object of legacy: it invites you to play, to reflect, and to never stop learning.

A Wouley signature — the luxury of the handcrafted gesture, rich with meaning.
