Solid Wood Catchall Tray — Bamileke Elephant Mask | Ø 17 cm — Padouk / Movingui — Wouley

Set on a dresser, an entryway console or a nightstand, this solid-wood catchall tray brings together everyday usefulness and handcrafted beauty. Its 17 cm round surface, framed by a gentle rim, keeps keys, watch, rings or coins within easy reach.

At its center, engraved in relief, is the Bamileke elephant mask — one of the most prestigious motifs of the Cameroon Grassfields. You can make out the trunk, unfurled into a long diamond-patterned panel, and the two large side disks representing the animal's ears. Among the Bamileke, this mask is danced by the Kuosi society — the "elephant society" — which brings together the king, court dignitaries and high-ranking warriors. It embodies the authority, wealth and strength of the fon, the ruler. The elephant, the mightiest of animals, is the very emblem of royal power in Cameroon.

To carry this symbol on an everyday object is to invite a piece of that heritage into your home: quiet strength, prestige, dignity.

Each piece is shaped and engraved by hand in our workshop in Cameroon. Subtle variations in the grain make every one unique. Two woods, two characters:

Padouk — an intense red-brown wood with deep grain, aging over time toward amber tones.

Movingui — a light, golden wood with a fine, even grain, for a softer, brighter look.
